Hello, from the Creators of A Christmas Carol

Hello!

Adam and Rhett here, saying hello, and thank you for being a part of Christmas Carol.  As we prepare to mount the show for the third year, we feel we can finally say, “it's a tradition.” A proud moment for Encore as it’s been our goal from the beginning.

So if you’ll indulge, let’s go back to the beginning.

Almost three years ago, we'd been left with the question, what holiday show should we produce at Encore. We had a pretty good idea that we wanted to do A Christmas Carol, and preferably a musical version. But after looking at all the available options, none of them felt right. At least not for Encore, our young artists, or the St. George Community.

So, why not create our own?

Well, there were a million reasons not to write a musical, a task neither of us had attempted. But, the idea of creating a homegrown, original show for our students and community was too compelling.

The first song that found its footing was the opening, “Scrooge”. It only seemed appropriate to start with the hook, and introduce our main character! Shortly after Tiny Tim’s song, “Love Everywhere”, emerged. We knew we were on to something special.

And so, the creative journey continued. Each rehearsal and brainstorm revealed more of our shared passion. We poured our hearts and guts into every lyric, melody, and set design. We quickly realized that we were not making a show, but a new holiday tradition for our community.

With each passing year, Christmas Carol has evolved and grown, reaching audiences young and old alike. We've seen tears of joy, laughter, and moments of reflection that fill the theater. It reaffirmed our belief in the power of storytelling to unite and inspire.

Now, as we prepare to mount the show for the third year, we stand in awe of how far it's come. What started as a simple idea that has blossomed into a beautiful tradition. It celebrates creativity, community, and the hope of change in us and in the world.

So, to each of you who've been part of this journey — as a performer, crew member, audience member, or supporter — we thank you. Thank you for believing in us and embracing our vision. Thank you for making Christmas Carol not just a show, but a cherished part of the holiday season.

As the curtain rises on A Christmas Carol this season, we hope you'll join us in the spirit of love, joy, and unity. The story of Encore's A Christmas Carol is still being written, and we’re excited to see where this year’s chapter takes us.

Merry (early) Christmas! And Thank you,

Adam and Rhett
