Through the regular introduction of sensory-friendly performances, Encore endeavors to ensure that individuals of all backgrounds and situations can attend and appreciate Encore productions — while also educating and equipping our staff and performers.

01

Community Advisory Committee

To enhance the experience for our patrons, Encore has established an advisory committee of knowledgeable members from the local St. George community — parents, teachers, caregivers, and individuals who identify as neurodiverse. We built it by reaching out to contacts in our network, consulting school drama and resource teachers for recommendations, and collaborating with local non-profits such as TURN and RRCI.

The committee attends performances and dress rehearsals to experience the show and get familiar with the venue. During these visits, they assess the production and identify anything that may need adjusting to ensure a safe, comfortable experience for patrons with sensory needs.

Creating a Sensory-Friendly Event

We invite feedback and recommendations from our advisory committee, then combine them with our own theater-specific expertise and our accessibility and inclusivity research and training.

We think about the whole experience — both the performance and everything around it: preparation, arrival, and navigating the space. The best events are built specifically around the show, the space, and the community.
