A Christmas Carol Live Table Read
A big thanks to our fellow local arts supporter and head of the Film Alliance, Adam Mast for this great write up about our A Christmas Carol live table read that followed a week long table read and workshop. Thank you Adam!
A big shout out to Encore Performing Arts! in St. George, UT. I really can't say enough about this incredible team and all the amazingly talented folks they work with. Encore! recently hosted their very first table read for a brand new adaptation of the Dickens classic, " A Christmas Carol." I was fortunate enough to attend that read alongside a handful of other lucky audience members and I can't express in words how impressed I was by that experience. And to think...This was only but the first table read!
Encore's goal, of course, is to work closely with our youth as they enter the world of live theater by way of giving them an opportunity to work with more seasoned performers.
With "A Christmas Carol," the goal is to create a yearly holiday tradition by way of one of the all-time great pieces of Christmastime-inspired literature. And given that tradition and Christmas go hand in hand, this whole concept makes a lot of sense to me.
This particular adaptation of "A Christmas Carol" will be directed by talented veteran stage actor Rhett Guter with all original music and lyrics penned by gifted musician (and Encore! co-founder), Adam Record.
I was really taken aback and moved by the read because while we've seen plenty of variations of the source material through the years, the creative story tweaks, stirring music numbers, and youthful cast all work in perfect harmony, bringing something magical and new to the proceedings. This is to say nothing of wonderful mentor performers Corbin Allred and Adam Cheney, who really brought their A-games. These kids are learning from some of the best.
"A Christmas Carol" is still in the early stages, of course, but quite honestly, that made the table read all the more impressive.
I really can't wait to see this thing come together and you can bet I'll be one of the first patrons to purchase tickets!
If anyone wants to learn more about what is sure to be a magical musical experience for audiences of all ages this holiday season at The Electric Theater, or if you're simply a fan of the arts and want to aid in making this show all it can be, again, be sure to click the link to see what Encore! and the rest of the creative team behind "A Christmas Carol" are all about!
